The Hidden Currency of Spiritual Dependency: Control, Manipulation, and the Illusion of Protection
For many, spirituality has turned into a highly profitable market of certainties. When life becomes unpredictable and inner discomfort grows, you feel an acute need for reassurance. Yet, if you look truly lucidly into this space, you see that often you are not looking for transformation, truth, or self-knowledge. You are simply looking for a place to keep intact your false realities, convenient scenarios, and the feeling of being in control.
There is a quiet and rarely addressed dynamic: the search for a miraculous, overnight healing that requires zero real effort on your part, alongside using therapists, psychics, tarot readers, or energy practitioners as tools for indirect manipulation. You pay not to look at yourself, but to find out what others think, to anticipate the moves of partners, bosses, or those around you, and to control relationships without ever having a direct, mature conversation in real life.

I am not writing these things from the top of my pedestal. I have done the exact same thing. I was in that space where I desperately searched for answers outside, where I wanted to believe in magic solutions just to avoid facing my own fear. I know exactly what it feels like to betray your own perception just because someone else, dressed in the clothes of a guide, offers you a warm answer to shelter in.
Searching for a Shield Against the Unpredictable
The compulsive consumption of subtle concepts and the constant consultation of an external authority do not come from a desire for evolution, but from your inability to tolerate uncertainty. When you cannot hold space for the unknown, you look for a supreme arbiter—a replacement for your own discernment.
You create a convenient mechanism: you hand your decisions over to someone else so you don't have to carry the blame if things fail. It is infinitely easier to say “That’s what I was told”, “That’s how the cards came out”, or “So-and-so told me that this is my personal mission”.
So many people derail their lives, abandoning their jobs or hard-earned careers to chase a mysterious “personal mission” dictated by someone else. Others block their emotional lives for years, waiting for a “soulmate” or a destiny-bound lover because that’s what they were promised in a reading. They remain frozen in place, unable to build anything real in the present, while paying session after session just to have it reconfirmed that “he/she will still come”.
The Dynamics of Mutual Dependency: Fear of Autonomy
This equation always involves two sides. On one hand, there is the client actively seeking an all-knowing figure to tell them what will happen next, feeding a learned helplessness and refusing to mature decision-wise.
On the other hand, there is the space of the practitioner, who may or may not choose to "feed" this dependency. A guide with integrity will set firm boundaries, refuse to be used as a crutch, and consistently point you back to your own responsibility.
The Real Costs: What You Lose When You Hand Over Your Personal Power
Surrendering your own authority isn't free. It comes with a heavy bill, paid on all levels:
A mountain of wasted money: Massive amounts invested over time in daily or weekly consultations, rituals, repeated readings, and sessions that do nothing except postpone direct confrontation with yourself.
Atrophy of discernment: Your capacity to make a simple decision without external validation gradually declines, until you find yourself facing true decisional paralysis.
Disconnection from reality: You live exclusively in subtle hypotheses, energy speculations, and scenarios about others, while your concrete life — real actions, conversations, and choices — remains completely frozen.
Erosion of self-trust: The habit of seeking external confirmation for every small step slowly destroys trust in your own senses, your own instinct, and what your body feels.
Direct Questions for a Lucid Self-Assessment
Stop for a second and answer with complete honesty:
How much of what you seek from a therapist or psychic is a real desire for clarity, and how much is an attempt to control the decisions or thoughts of someone else?
How much money and energy have you invested in recent years in healing sessions, readings, or clairvoyance just to avoid making a real change in your life?
How often do you turn to readings or the support of others to avoid an uncomfortable, but absolutely necessary, conversation in real life?
Authentic support has a single goal: to help you become independent as quickly as possible. Anything else is not a process of self-awareness, but simply a way to feed your fear of standing on your own two feet.
